ABOUT THE MARKET
With small business owners and traders around the island struggling to make ends meet in a Covid environment, the CAN Market was developed by The Creative Isle as a response to encouraging a revival of cottage, small & medium entrepreneurs.
CAN WEEKEND MARKET has a new face and a new place to call home! We are thrilled to announce that you’ll be able to find the creative isles can market from 31st May to 2nd June at the World Trade Center Colombo. The CAN Market with over 70 vendors from all around the country will continue to showcase Sri Lankan talent on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Thank you Foundation of Goodness, Muttiah Muralitharan and Kushil Gunasekera for your support to empower spirited micro entrepreneurs from around Sri Lanka . Together we Rise up to Build Sri Lanka
The creative isle project is an idea that birthed under the covid lock down when entrepreneurs were fast losing hope about their creative career choices. Many people who had given up corporate jobs to pursue their creative passions were regretting their decisions to do so. The CAN weekend market is all about supporting creative entrepreneurship. Most believe it’s too risky to try to make a living pursuing creative careers! Help us to change that mindset.
Join our cricketing legend & philanthropist Muttiah Muralidaran , and our valued partners at the Launch of the CAN weekend market. Together we can make a difference by supporting creative businesses across the island.
Let’s talk Business every weekend at the CAN marketplace . Explore opportunities for B2B & B2C at this comfortable & safe shopping venue housing 70 creative businesses every weekend Saturday to Sunday

Across the world, UNDP is striving to help create and nurture an enabling ecosystem for entrepreneurs to fulfill their potential. In Sri Lanka, UNDP is specifically supporting entrepreneurs through the HackaDev programme, the Global Environment facility funded Small Grants Programme and the SDG 16 portfolio. UNDP’s support entails guidance on business development, skill building, ideation, incubation and constant mentoring to help entrepreneurs grow to self-sustain themselves and their ventures.
HackaDev is a collection of unique and interconnected service offerings influencing the eco systems of youth development and entrepreneurship targeted at enabling Sri Lanka’s youth population to acquire the necessary skills to be entrepreneurial and contribute towards the economic, social and environmental development of the country. The Small Grants Programme provides grants to local communities who depend on access to natural resources for their livelihoods and often live in fragile ecosystems. UNDP also works to address governance deficits and strengthen the effectiveness of key institutions to be able to deliver people-centered services through the SDG 16 Portfolio. It is intended to contribute to Sri Lanka achieving SDG 16, which is universally regarded as the enabler for realising SDGs 1-15.
Whilst thanking the foundation of goodness for coming forward to encourage the dampened spirits post Covid we invite others interested in partnering the cause to come forward as these rural talents need exposure , technical , financial and skill and fund support to keep pursuing their dreams of creative careers . They strive to keep traditional arts and crafts contemporary , many pursue Upcycle and recycle manufacturing . So join us to build and sustain creative communities , pursue greener safer options creating products fit for global markets .
